Privacy Policy
This policy applies to the StreamNight app for iOS (iPhone and iPad) and for Android, and to this website.

2. In short
StreamNight has no user account and uses no analytics, no tracking and no advertising. No data is shared with third parties for advertising purposes.
3. Data on your device
The app stores the following data locally on your device. It does not leave the device – with two exceptions: on iOS, ratings and watchlist when iCloud is enabled (see section 8), and on Android, the device backup when it is turned on (see section 9):
- your ratings
- your watchlist
- “watched” and “not interested” marks
- your country
- the streaming providers you selected
- your settings
- cached movie and TV data
Deleting the app removes this data from your device.
4. Fetching movie and TV data from TMDB
The app fetches movie and TV data and images directly from The Movie Database (TMDB) (api.themoviedb.org, image.tmdb.org). For technical reasons, TMDB receives:
- your device's IP address,
- the requested titles or search terms,
- language and country.
No user ID and no ratings are sent to TMDB.
TMDB is based in the USA. Fetching data therefore involves a transfer of data to a third country outside the EU.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is providing the app's functionality, i.e. showing movie and TV data.
TMDB privacy policy: https://www.themoviedb.org/privacy-policy
5. Topic search (Wikidata)
When you enter a topic of your own under “Tonight” (e.g. “Flugzeug”), the app asks Wikidata (www.wikidata.org) for the English term, because TMDB's keywords are in English. If the app runs in English, this request is not made. For technical reasons, Wikidata receives:
- your device's IP address,
- the topic you entered,
- the app's language,
- the app's name (“StreamNight”) identifying the request.
No user ID and no ratings are sent to Wikidata. The connection is only established once you add a topic.
Wikidata is operated by the Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. (San Francisco, USA). Fetching data therefore involves a transfer of data to a third country outside the EU.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is providing the topic search.

6. External links
When you tap “Watch” in the app, the TMDB or JustWatch page or the app of the respective streaming service opens. Their privacy policies apply there.
7. Trailers (YouTube)
When you tap “Trailer” in the app, the trailer is loaded via YouTube's embedded player (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com).
A connection to YouTube/Google is only established once you tap. Among other things, your IP address and device information are transmitted. A transfer to the USA is possible.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (actively tapping) or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Google privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
8. iCloud sync (iOS only)
This section applies to the iOS app only; the Android app does not sync data between devices. If iCloud is enabled on your device, your ratings and your watchlist are stored in your private iCloud database at Apple and synced between your devices. The app provider has no access to this data.
Apple's privacy policy applies: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
9. Device backup (Android only)
If Google's backup is turned on on your Android device, Android automatically backs up the app data listed in section 3 to your Google account and restores it when the app is reinstalled. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. The app provider has no access to this data. The backup can be turned off in Android Settings.
Google's privacy policy applies: https://policies.google.com/privacy
10. Notifications
The app occasionally checks in the background whether saved titles are still available on the services you selected (request to TMDB, see section 4) and shows a local notification if applicable. No push servers of the app provider are used.
Notifications can be turned off in the app and in your device's settings (iOS or Android).
11. App Store and Google Play
The app is downloaded and updated through Apple's App Store on iOS and through Google Play on Android. The privacy policy of Apple or Google applies to this.
12. This website
This website sets no cookies and loads no third-party content.
Analytics with Umami: To see which pages are visited and how often, we use the open-source tool Umami. The IP address is processed only briefly to determine the country and an anonymous session identifier. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is the anonymous analysis of website usage.
For technical reasons, the web server stores IP addresses in server logs. Retention period: 14 days. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (secure operation of the website).
The website is hosted by netcup GmbH (Germany).
